2. Handling

Before Use

During Use

  • Invert tube gently 5–8 times after blood collection to mix blood with anticoagulant. Vigorous shaking can cause hemolysis or premature platelet activation
  • Do not remove the stopper during or after blood collection — PRP recovery is performed through the stopper using a transfer needle or syringe
  • Handle filled tubes carefully during transfer to and from the centrifuge — impact can disturb the blood-anticoagulant mixture or damage the tube

Centrifugation

  • Balance the centrifuge: Place tubes symmetrically in the rotor. Use balance tubes if running an odd number of samples
  • Follow validated RPM and time: Do not exceed the tube manufacturer's maximum rated centrifugation speed
  • Allow centrifuge to stop completely before opening the lid. Do not use the mechanical brake to stop the rotor mid-spin — this can disturb layer separation
  • Handle spun tubes gently: Post-centrifugation, the gel separator barrier is stable but can be disrupted by rough handling

After Use

  • Dispose as medical waste: PRP tubes contain blood products and should be disposed of in accordance with local biohazard waste regulations
